-

Lloyd Roland Jones was born on May 5,1925 to the union of Pearl Weber and Joseph Thompson Jones Sr. He was the 3rd of 7 children. Lloyd attended C.M. Washington elementary and high schools in Thibodaux, Louisiana. He received Christ at 9 years old as a member of Allen Chapel Methodist Church. He later joined First AME Zion Church and served faithfully for over 70 years.

At the age of 18, Lloyd was drafted into military service and traveled to destinations including Italy and Greece. He served his country proudly and was discharged with honors.

Lloyd settled in San Francisco, and married the love of his life and childhood sweetheart, Louise Cooks. God blessed them with four children, and they remained happily married for the balance of their lives.

After military service, Lloyd was employed at Veteran’s hospital, Soldier’s hospital and Letterman hospital as an orderly. He enjoyed caring for those in need and was always ready with a big smile or funny story to help the infirmed feel better.

When the opportunity arose, Lloyd began working at the United States Postal Service. People looked forward to him arriving, and frequently stopped to chat as he delivered their mail. Many welcomed him as an extension of their own families. He never met a stranger during his 38 years on the job.

Lloyd was passionate about his SF Giants, and rarely missed a game; either by radio in the early days or on tv most recently. He loved going to Seal’s Stadium and Candlestick Park; especially when the Dodgers were in town. Lloyd was a Mason and served as the Past Master of Victoria Lodge #3, Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge.

Mr. Lloyd Roland Jones was preceded in death by his bride of 69 years Louise C. Jones. He leaves to cherish fond memories, his children LeRoy, Irvin (Connie), Pearl (Carey), and Karen; 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and a world of family and friends. Mr. Lloyd Roland Jones was loved by everyone who knew him. He was passionate about serving and helping the homeless. Donations can be made in his memory to a homeless shelter in your community.
