John Michael Revicky

John died on October 4th, 2021. He was born in Latrobe, PA, son of the later John and Eleanor Revicky and his adopted mom, Adeline Smetak. He attended Saint Fidelis Seminary in Herman PA and earned his BA at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA, after one summer as an exchange worker on a pig farm and another summer at the Goethe Institute both in Germany. He was active in the Civil Rights movement.

After his discharge from the US Air Force he remained in Monterey CA. He was a waiter on Cannery Row and at Pebble Beach while earning his MA from San Francisco State University.

He was a Social Worker for Monterey County. Later he managed a restaurant on Maui and was CEO of Quail Lodge in Carmel Valley. John moved to San Francisco and retired as a teacher in the San Francisco

School District. (He taught at Hawthorne School in the Mission, Rafael Weill in the Fillmore, John Yee Hall Chin in Chinatown and Herbert Hoover Middle School in West Portal). He loved to cook, read and spend his summers in Ravenna Italy. He was involved in the Gay Rights Movement, volunteere­d during the AIDS epidemic and active at Most Holy Redeemer in the Castro.

He was preceded in death by his partner, Kevin G. Brooks. In PA, he is survived by his sister, Theresa, twin Bernadette, sister Barbara and friends, Tom and Carol. He leaves his Bay Area family, Georgette, Wesley, Steve plus Jimle (WA) and adopted sister Jeri and Lou (AZ). The memorial mass will be at Most Holy Redeemer. Donations can be made to St Anthony’s Dining Room, 150 Golden Gate Ave., San Francisco, 94102, where he had volunteere­d.
