She transferred to San Francisco State University and received her B.A. in Geography in May of 1983. Emily worked at both colleges. She was an active member of AAUW, DAR, League of Women Voters, Cornish Cousins, Millbrae Lions, the “Lunch Bunch” and book clubs with Bob and friends. She was so interested in her hobbies and mastered many of them – making jewelry, birdwatching, earthquake research, painting, sewing, quilting, silk screening, running, reading, cooking, genealogy, hiking, politics, camping, traveling. She supported her children and their activities, working as Cub Scout Leader, Boy Scout volunteer, Blue Bird and Camp Fire Girl Leader, Capuchino HS Band Boosters treasurer and volunteer,

Millbrae Meadows Swim Club board member, and countless carpools and sporting events.

Emily is survived by her husband of nearly 65 years, Robert D. Jorge of Millbrae, daughters Valerie Hayes (Matthew) of Cupertino, Lorinda Rodrigues (Anthony) of Cupertino, and son Andrew Jorge of Milpitas. Emily loved her grandchildren, Kevin Hayes, Brandon Hayes, Spencer Rodrigues and Sierra Rodrigues, and step-granddaughter Jennifer Gilda (Chris) and their children Nolan and Emmett. Emily had one sister, Patricia Symons Lloyd Baldwin Rowbottom (Jim) of Nevada. She was preceded in death by son Randall Jorge (November 25, 2018) of Redwood City and parents Mildred Evelyn (Wells) Symons (January 8, 2008) and Robert Francis Symons (April 19, 1958), both of Bishop, CA.

There are no services planned at this time. Donations to the Neurofibromatosis Network or Guide Dogs for the Blind, Inc. in San Rafael, CA can be made in her name. May Emily rest in peace and know how much she is loved.
