San Francisco Chronicle - (Sunday)

49ers (2-4) at Bears (3-4)

- -- Eric Branch

Kickoff: 10 a.m. TV/Radio: 2t (680, 104.5, 107.7)

Spotlight on: DE Nick Bosa: It will be a surprise if the 49ers’ only consistent pass rusher doesn’t consistently harass rookie QB Justin Fields, who has been sacked on an NFL-high 14.4% of his dropbacks (22 of 153). Bosa will square off against LT Justin Peters, 39, but the 18-year veteran figures to receive frequent assistance. The state of the Bears’ offensive line, along with Fields’ penchant for holding on to the ball, are ingredients for a breakout game for the 49ers’ pass rush, even if it will be shorthanded. DE Dee Ford is out with a concussion and DE Samson Ebukam is questionable with an ankle injury he suffered in Thursday’s practice.

Injury notes: 49ers — LB Azeez Al-Shaair (concussion) is out; LT Trent Williams (ankle) is questionable. Bears — LB Khalil Mack (foot) is out; DT Akiem Hicks (groin) is questionable.

THREE THINGS TO WATCH

The 49ers have converted 10 of their past 45 attempts on third and fourth down. The 49ers rank fifth the NFL in fewest passing yards allowed per game (205), but they are first in yardage allowed (250) via their NFL-high 11 pass-interference penalties. If that penalty yardage was accounted for in their passing yardage total, they would rank 19th in pass defense. The Bears will be without head coach Matt Nagy due to COVID-19 protocols. Special teams coach Chris Tabor will serve as acting head coach. Tabor’s lone head coaching experience came at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo., in 2001.
