Owen Michael Raven

Owen Michael Raven, a second-generation native San Franciscan, was born on August 25th, 1944 and passed away at his home on November 12th, 2021. He is now reunited with his beloved wife Gael Ann Beresford, to whom he was married for over 43 years. Owen was first and foremost a family man who took great pride in taking excellent care of his wife and only son.

Owen attended elementary school at Notre Dame des Victoires, high school at Lowell, college at San Francisco State, and earned a master’s degree from the University of San Francisco. He proudly served his country in the Vietnam War from 1968-1970 with an honorable discharge and many awards including the Bronze Star Medal for his heroic service.

In his profession­al life, Owen was a Senior Bank Examiner for the State of California for over 25 years. In his personal life, he gave back to his community in a variety of ways. He was passionate about the education and developmen­t of children and was a strong advocate for the welfare of animals. He served for over a decade as Scoutmaste­r for Boy Scouts of America Troop 333 in San Francisco. In addition, he also volunteere­d as a docent for many years at the

California Academy of Sciences, where he introduced generation­s of children to the wonders of nature and animal life.

Owen is survived by his loving son Brendan Owen Raven, his daughter-in-law Wiebke Raven, and his granddaugh­ter Matilda Ann Raven, who, in his later years, was the light of his life. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him as a generous, caring, and loving family member and friend.

Funeral services will be held on Monday November 22 at 10am at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave, Daly City, Ca. 94014, and will conclude at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery at 12 noon. 1500 Mission Rd, Colma, CA 94014.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the World Wildlife Fund to honor Owen’s love of nature and the animals who inhabit this Earth.
