Hornets spoil Antetokoun­mpo’s big night

Terry Rozier scored 28 points, Miles Bridges added 21 points and eight rebounds, and the Hornets beat the Bucks 114-106 on Saturday night in Charlotte, N.C., handing the defending NBA champions their third loss in four games.

LaMelo Ball chipped in with 19 points, nine rebounds and eight assists for the Hornets, who held Milwaukee to 38.9% shooting on the Bucks’ second road game in two nights. Giannis Antetokoun­mpo had 43 points and 12 rebounds, while Khris Middleton added 27 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists for Milwaukee, which won in Brooklyn on Friday but fell to 13-9 on the road.

The teams meet again Monday in Charlotte.

Antetokoun­mpo finished 18 of 20 from the free throw line.

Rozier continued his torrid pace from 3-point range by going 6 of 10, including a huge 3 with 34 seconds left to put the Hornets up by seven.

Rozier has made 36 3-pointers over the last eight games, while shooting 49.3% from beyond the arc.

Barrett had 19 points. Julius Randle added 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Knicks, who were strong from beyond the arc in the first half but couldn’t overcome poor free throw shooting. New York was 11 of 31 on 3-pointers, but finished just 6 for 15 from the foul line.

Grizzlies 123, Clippers 108: Jaren Jackson Jr. scored 26 points, Desmond Bane added 23 and visiting Memphis tied a franchise record with its eighth straight win.

It is the fifth time in Memphis’ history and first since 2015 it has won eight straight. The Grizzlies prevailed despite missing All-Star point guard Ja Morant, who sat out due to left thigh soreness. They were also without coach Taylor Jenkins after he entered health and safety protocols.

Memphis has also won 11 of its last 12 road games, with the only loss during that stretch coming on Dec. 23 vs. Golden State.

Pacers 125, Jazz 113: Domantas Sabonis scored a careerhigh 42 points on 18-of-22 shooting to lead host Indiana to a victory over Utah.

Lance Stephenson contribute­d 16 points, 14 assists and four steals off the bench for the Pacers. Duane Washington Jr. added 16 points and Justin Holiday 15 for Indiana. Pistons 97, Magic 92: Trey Lyles scored eight of his 16 points in the fourth quarter and host Detroit won for the third time in five games, beating Orlando in a matchup of the NBA’s two worst teams.

After ending last year with 18 losses in 19 games, the Pistons have beaten San Antonio, Milwaukee and the Magic since New Year’s Day. They improved to 8-30.
