Shabazz, Massalski lead USF to easy win

Khalil Shabazz scored a season-high 27 points, Yauhen Massalski had 21 points and 17 rebounds, and USF won its eighth consecutiv­e home game, beating San Diego 88-73 on Saturday night.

It was the West Coast Conference opener for both teams.

Jamaree Bouyea had 19 points for San Francisco (14-2). Bryce Monroe had 15 points for the Toreros (7-7).

Adam Flagler rallied the visiting Bears with 18 of his 22 points in the second half, and Baylor extended its nation’s-best winning streak to 21 games. James Akinjo (Salesian-Richmond) had 20 points and eight assists for the Bears (15-0, 3-0 Big 12). Mike Miles Jr. had 26 points

for TCU (10-2, 0-1).

Kameron McGusty hit a hanging layup in traffic with 22.8 seconds left and the visiting Hurricanes (13-3, 5-0 ACC) survived a final-play shot to stun the Blue Devils (12-2, 2-1).

Trevion Williams scored 21 points for the visiting Boilermake­rs (13-2, 2-2 Big Ten). Jalen Pickett scored 21 points with 10 assists for Penn State (7-6, 2-3).

#25 Texas Tech 75, #6 Kansas 67:

Bryson Williams scored 22 points and the short-handed Red Raiders (11-3, 1-1 Big 12) upended the Jayhawks at home. Ochai Agbaji had 24 points for Kansas (12-2, 1-1).

The game in Ann Arbor was postponed because the Wolverines had fewer than seven scholarshi­p players due to pandemic protocols.

Oklahoma 79, #11 Iowa St. 66:

Umoja Gibson scored 20 points, and the host Sooners (12-3, 2-1 Big 12) took control with a 14-0 run late in the second half. Izaiah Brockingto­n and Tyrese Hunter each scored 20 points for Iowa State (13-2, 1-2).

Josh Carlton had 22 points and 12 rebounds as the Cougars (14-2, 3-0 American) extended their home winning streak to 34 games. Tyson Etienne scored 11 points for the Shockers (9-5, 0-2).

Oklahoma St. 64, #14 Texas 51:

Keylan Boone scored 17 points, sending the Cowboys (8-5, 1-1 Big 12) to the upset win at home. Texas (12-3, 2-1) had won six in a row.

Kobe Brown’s career-high 30 points and 13 rebounds led the host Tigers (7-7, 1-1 SEC) to their first win in three weeks. The Tigers held off Alabama (11-4, 2-2) despite making only one basket in the final five minutes.

#16 Providence 83, St. John’s 73:

Nate Watson had 22 points and 11 rebounds as the host Friars (14-2, 4-1 Big East) got the 300th career victory for coach Ed Cooley. It was just the second game for St. John’s (9-4, 1-1) since it had four games over 18 days postponed after multiple players were placed in COVID-19 protocols.

#16 Kentucky 92, Georgia 77:

Oscar Tshiebwe had a careeer-high 29 points and 17 rebounds, TyTy Washington Jr. added a school-record 17 assists with 17 points, and the host Wildcats (12-3, 2-1 SEC) pulled away from Georgia (5-10, 0-2), which dropped its fourth consecutiv­e game.

Tari Eason capped a 24-point, 12-rebound performanc­e with a late pivotal dunk in transition and the host Tigers (14-1, 2-1 SEC) got their second straight triumph over a ranked opponent. Kennedy Chandler scored 19 points and Santiago Vescovi added 14 points for the Volunteers (10-4, 1-2).

In Chicago, Collin Gillespie scored a season-high 28 points for the Wildcats (11-4, 4-1 Big East). The Blue Demons (9-5, 0-4 Big East) got a career-high 34 points from Javon Freeman-Liberty.

Former Cal player Matt Bradley scored 26 points and the host Aztecs (10-3, 2-0 Mountain West) outscored the Rams 43-17 in the second half.

Kadary Richmond scored 27 points, with the go-ahead basket in overtime, for the host Pirates (11-3, 2-2 Big East). UConn (10-4, 1-2) got 18 points and 16 rebounds from Adama Sanogo.

Tyrell Roberts knocked down five 3-pointers and the Cougars (9-6, 2-2 Pac-12) got

their first win at Utah since 1946.

San Jose St. 118, Bethesda 43:

Freshman Myron Amey Jr. came off the bench to score a career-high 32 points for the host Spartans (7-5).
