Margaret Moran

-

Resident of Lafayette Margaret (“Marge” or “Margie P.” to Dad) Patricia Connolly Moran died peacefully at home after a brief illness on January 7, 2022. Her family considered her an unparalleled wife, mother, sister and friend. Marge was born in Oakland on April 4, 1926. After graduating from Holy Names High School she attended Holy Names College. During World War II she served as a nurse’s aid and was proud of her service to her country and her care of the sick and injured while working on Pill Hill. After the war, Marge worked at Castle and Cook until she married Tom Moran in 1950. Having built their house in Lafayette, they spent a lively 52 years together. After Tom’s passing, she stayed at her beloved home on Santa Maria Way for another two decades where her family, friends and neighbors were always available for assistance or talks, whether it was on the street, at the mailbox or the kitchen table.

Marge and Tom were fortunate enough to spend a considerable amount of time at the Russian River and later oceanside at Monterey Dunes where family and friends were always welcome.

Having a wide variety of interests, Marge left her imprint while gardening, baking and teaching her opponents a thing or two about dominoes and cards. She took a particular delight in defeating her opponents and collecting her winnings of a quarter a game/penny a point.

Through her many activities, Marge developed decades-long friendships. She was an avid tennis player and had a permanent reservation at the Orinda Country Club with her Monday morning foursome. As a member of the 9-Hole golf group at the OCC, she enjoyed the monthly luncheons with the golfers just as much as her time on the course.

Ever the creator, Marge loved needlepointing and painting; a trip to France with like-minded friends yielded years of stories of their misadventures together. For the past 31 years, Marge cherished her time with the “Not Ready for Prime-Time Quilters.” The group met for luncheons and often traveled to Carmel for quilting weekends. She took pride in her work and was inspired by the endless imaginations of her fellow quilters. Marge was also a longtime parishioner at St. Perpetua Church where faith and friendships were so important to her as were her years of volunteering. Marge is survived by her three children, Aileen Hayes, Thomas Moran III and Molly Moran; their spouses Michael Hayes and Michael Seybold, her grandchildren Claire (Scott) Burr, Anne Hayes (Shaw Akutsu) and Christopher Seybold as well as great-grandchildren Anthony and Thomas Burr.

Marge is also survived by her sister Elizabeth Connolly, sisters-in-law Nancy Buckley and Freddy Moran and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Suncrest Hospice for their assistance; Marge passed peacefully at home, as she wanted, surrounded by her children.

The date of the memorial mass will be announced at a later time.
