Thomas Todt
It is with great sadness that the family and friends of Tom Todt (aka Hartmann) announce his peaceful passing on February 8, 2022. He was surrounded by family and friends in a room full of love, laughter, and music. He was 61.
Tom was diagnosed with an aggressive prostate cancer in 12/2020 and fought valiantly to remain with those he loved. Tom was born on April 24, 1960 in Astoria, borough of Queens, New York to Heinke Lohle (nee Todt). He lived in Germany for a short time at age 4, and learned to speak German. Tom moved to California in the 1980’s and worked in the medical and service industry, most notably The Fillmore and All You Knead restaurant in the Haight. Tom was a caring, faithful friend to many, funny, blunt and a no-nonsense personality. He had an unyielding devotion to the New York Mets since childhood. Tom’s biting sense of humor kept many in stitches, in which he firmly believed “it’s all about the laughs”. He put people (mostly) at ease with his observant takes on everyday absurdities and ironies. Inspired by the humor of Woody Allen, Tom had a keen sense of both the outrageous and somber moments in life. Two of his passions were music and photography. He loved being around friends, setting up occasions to gather, usually at a concert, a trip or over dinner and drinks. His gregarious and generous spirit is what made him dear to many and affectionately remembered as “mobbed up” in many social circles. Underneath a brusque exterior and personality was a kind heartedness that has had a lasting effect on his close friends and family. Tom Todt is survived by his sons Dylan Matthew Todt of Stockton and Michael Christian Mahurin of Sacramento, aunt Monika Nietzsche of Germany, aunt Antje Farke and cousins Natascha Tello & Jessica Marcos of Miami, Florida, and his girlfriend Melanie Lindow of San Francisco. He was preceded in death by his mother Heinke Lohle and stepfather William “Billy” Lohle of New York, and his father Gunther Hartmann of Vermont.
His family and loved ones are grateful for the quality of care Tom received at the palliative care unit at UCSF. Thank you to Dr. Teresa Palmer who demonstrated unflagging advocacy for Tom and his family during this heartbreaking time.
A Celebration of Life is planned on Saturday, 4/2/22 at Dr. Rick’s in San Francisco. Please visit http:// www.mem.com/10591173 to express condolences.
