Brigid “Bridie” Moore

-

Passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 9, 2022 at the age of 83. Bridie was born to Patrick and Eileen “Eily” (née McMahon) Keating on August 25, 1938 on the ancestral farm in County Clare, Ireland. She immigrated to the US in 1956 and fell in love…with San Francisco. Her uncle Mike and cousins, who had immigrated to San Francisco in the early 1900s, sponsored her and she proudly became an American citizen in 1963. Bridie worked as a secretary in downtown San Francisco before getting married, settling into St. Gabriel Parish in the Sunset District and starting a family. She always said her children were her life.

Although she was raised on a farm, she preferred the hustle and bustle of city life. Bridie loved to explore the neighborhoods and parishes of San Francisco and taking long walks on Ocean Beach and in Golden Gate Park. Summers were enjoyed at Lake Tahoe, Sonoma and Yosemite’s Camp Mather. Her Catholic faith was an integral part of her life and she liked to attend mass, sometimes daily, at various churches throughout San Francisco. Bridie was a voracious reader and enjoyed spending time at the city’s public libraries reading history books and biographies. She was proud of her Irish heritage and was a founding member of the United Irish Cultural Center.

Bridie was predeceased by her parents, aunt Mary Crotty and sister Mary Keating. She is survived by her husband Thomas “Fred” Moore, children Mary, Tom, Theresa (Scott), Patrick and Rosaleen, and grandsons Tommy and PJ. She is also survived by her brother Thomas Keating, cousin Bernie Keating, brother-in-law Joe Moore, and sister-in-law Sister Teresa Moore and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews throughout the US and Ireland.

A private Rosary and Funeral Mass were held at St. Ignatius Church in San Francisco with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery on Wednesday, March 16, 2022. Memorial donations may be made to Catholic Charities of San Francisco - www.catholiccharitiessf.org/give
