Henry McKenzie

-

Henry (Hank) L. McKenzie, Jr. (April 9, 1929 to February 17, 2021) passed away peacefully after a brief, nonCOVID-related illness. He was preceded in death by his adored wife Dorothy, his siblings Thomas (Pete) McKenzie, Christy Ann Maguire, Jim McKenzie and Kathy McKenzie. He is survived by daughter Liz Mayta, son Doug McKenzie (Gina), and grandchildren Nicole and Regina Mayta, and Charlotte and Drew

McKenzie. He is also survived by sister-in-law Marina McKenzie and cousin Harry Hanratty (Bea) as well as nieces and nephews from the McKenzie, Keith and Maguire families.

Known for his dry wit, Hank was a proud San Franciscan with a career that spanned from cab driving to realtor to Chief Appraiser for the City. He will be celebrated at funeral mass 11 a.m., April 19, St. Gabriel’s, 2559 40th Ave., SF.

George Couch passed away in the early morning hours of March 25, 2022, at the age of 89. He was a man beloved by all who knew him. He had a gentle yet strong spirit that drew people to him. He was naturally easy-going and happy, seeing the best in everyone. He grew incredible oregano from a plant he brought back from Greece, his parents’ home country. He loved hunting with his black lab and his buddies and fishing in Alaska with his grandsons and his many friends. He made the best leg of lamb! He loved reading spy thrillers and almost always finished the crossword puzzles. Most of all he loved his family.

When George was 14, he saw his future wife Katherine performing in a Greek dancing competition. We’re not sure if the group won the competition but he won Katherine’s heart. They married in 1955 and celebrated 65 years of marriage before Kay’s passing in 2020. George was a native San Franciscan. His mother once said to him “You can go to any school you like as long as Muni takes you there.” So naturally, he went to St. Ignatius and USF, both on the Muni line. He played basketball, worked in his parent’s corner grocery store on Bush St, graduated with a degree in business, and started a successful real estate company.

He is survived by his daughter Pamela Couch, son Jim Couch, sister Dorothy Vasiloudis, grandchildren Katherine, Adam, and William McLaughlin, George Couch, and his nieces and nephews Vickie, Gina, and

Andy Vasiloudis.

He was smart and brave and loyal and funny and warm and generous and kind. He always had a smile on his face and a warm welcoming hug. He will be forever missed, remembered, and loved.
