Siakam’s big 4th helps Toronto avoid sweep

Pascal Siakam scored 15 of his 34 points in the fourth quarter, Gary Trent Jr. added 24 points and the Raptors beat the 76ers 110-102 on Saturday in Toronto to avert a four-game sweep in the NBA Eastern Conference first-round playoff series.

Philadelph­ia’s Joel Embiid started despite a right thumb injury that required him to wear a brace. He shot 3-for-10 in the first half and finished 7-for-16 while scoring 21 points in 39 minutes. Toronto forward Scottie Barnes was voted NBA Rookie of the Year, edging Cleveland’s Evan Mobley. Barnes got 48 first-place votes and 378 points from a global panel of 100 sportswrit­ers and broadcaste­rs. Mobley received 43 first-place votes and finished with 363 points. Despite Cristiano Ronaldo making an emotional scoring return, Manchester United was beaten 3-1 by Arsenal in the English Premier League and fell six points behind its rival in the race for a top-four finish . ... Gabriel Jesus scored four goals as Manchester City crushed Watford 5-1 to increase its EPL lead to four points . ... Tottenham failed to put a shot on target for the second straight game in drawing with Brentford 0-0. ... Aston Villa snapped a fourgame losing streak with a 0-0 draw at Leicester . ... Joelinton scored twice for Newcastle as it climbed into the top half of the standings after beating host Norwich 3-0. Bayern Munich completed a decade of domestic dominance by beating main rival Borussia Dortmund 3-1 to seal a recordexte­nding 10th consecutiv­e Bundesliga title. Bayern topped the nine Serie A titles in a row by Juventus from 2012-20.

NHL: Rookie Seth Jarvis scored with 3:21 left in overtime and visiting Carolina rallied from a late two-goal deficit to beat New Jersey 3-2 for its third straight win . ... Evgeni Malkin scored two goals and Pittsburgh beat host Detroit 7-2 . ... Tage Thompson scored his team-leading 37th goal during a three-goal, second-period surge and host Buffalo defeated the New York Islanders 5-3.

Motor sports: Christophe­r Bell won the pole for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup race at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeed­way by turning the fastest lap, at 180.928 mph, as the final driver to qualify Saturday. Martin Truex Jr. qualified second at 180.652 mph to give Joe Gibbs Racing the front row for the race. Max Verstappen overtook Formula One leader Charles Leclerc on the penultimat­e lap to win the sprint race at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, Italy, securing the top spot on the grid for Sunday’s race. He finished 2.975 seconds ahead of Ferrari’s Leclerc and 4.721 ahead of Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez.

Tennis: Top-ranked Iga Swiatek stretched her winning run to 22 matches as she overcame Liudmila Samsonova 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-5 to reach the final of the Stuttgart Open in Germany. She will face Aryna Sabalenka, who defeated the second-seeded Paula Badosa 7-6 (5), 6-4. Novak Djokovic booked a place in the Serbia Open final in Belgrade after overcoming Karen Khachanov 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. Djokovic will face Andrey Rublev in Sunday’s final. The second-seeded Russian player defeated Fabio Fognini 6-2, 6-2 in the other semifinal.
