Thomas J. Griffin

-

Thomas J. Griffin – Tom, Griff, Pop Tom, Dad, Uncle Tom, Big Griff passed away peacefully after a long illness on April 5, 2022 at the age of 76.

He was raised in the Sunset District attending Holy Name Grammar School, class of 1960 with whom he still had many friends. He went on to Riordan High School, class of 1964 where he met his lifelong friends too numerous to mention. Upon graduation Tom entered the U.S. Navy spending 2 years on the USS Belgrove. After many attempts, he finally made it into his dream job – the S. F. Fire Department with only months to spare due to age limit. He was a proud firefighter for over 27 years, loving every minute of it. Tom loved his 49ers especially during the 80’s while he drove his “49er El Camino” around town even making it into a Niner Parade on Market Street, He claimed it was the most photographed car at Candlestick!

Only his family was loved more than his Niners! He leaves behind his loving wife, Molly, of 49 years, and his adored daughters, Maggie (Tim) Sanchez and Amy (Eric) Newby, and 4 grandchildren, Mia and Adelina Sanchez and Griffin and Brennan Newby. Tom was the loving brother of Katherine (Bob) Drucker and the late Rosemary (John) Cadden, and John Griffin. Also preceded in death are his parents John and Isabel Griffin.

Tom’s numerous nieces and nephews of the Drucker, Cadden, Novitzky, McNichol, and O’Brien families, they will feel his loss. We would like to thank the staff at Sunrise San Mateo for their devoted care for Tom in his last months. Rest in peace, Tom! We love you to pieces!
