Despite its flaws, ‘Mamma Mia’ is irresistible fun

- — Mick LaSalle

You can easily point to everything wrong with “Mamma Mia,” including a lead actor who can’t sing (Pierce Brosnan) and the weird fact that everyone in the movie is about 15 years too old for their roles. But the most important thing to say about “Mamma Mia” is that it’s really fun.

The Abba songs are a pleasure to listen to, and the film’s atmosphere — it’s set on a Greek island — reinforces a feeling of being on a mini-vacation. Amanda Seyfried plays a young woman about to get married, who would like to have her father walk her down the aisle. But to confuse matters, there are three men who could be the father: Brosnan, Colin Firth and Stellan Skarsgard. Meryl Streep is a delight as the mom, who was apparently a very busy woman back in the day. “Mamma Mia”: 12:30 p.m. Sunday, May 8. $13.50.
