Clarisse Anderson Hamblin

-

Clarisse Anderson Hamblin, devoted wife of Doug Hamblin, loving mother of daughters Caroline and Olivia, sister to Pamela, Erica, Cyndra, and Stacy, aunt to Jacob and William, left us peacefully April 12 2022, after a courageous year-long battle with PCNSL lymphoma. She was 66.

Clarisse was a native of Los Angeles and returned here after growing up for a time in Wisconsin. She attended UCLA and received her JD from Whittier College. For over 30 years Clarisse served as a Deputy Public Defender in Dept 95, the busiest mental health court in the US, zealously advocating for the mentally ill and most disadvantaged. She became an expert in the field. She later directed the implementation of LA County AOT Program known as Laura’s Law.

Doug writes, “My beautiful wife made me the happiest man on the planet for almost 25 years”. Clarisse’s family, friends and coworkers all remember her as brilliant, passionate, feisty, hilariously funny, elegant, and compassionate. Her limitless energy and enthusiasm led to a full life of travel and adventure. She visited India to study yoga with Ashtanga master K Pattabhi Jois. Clarisse was also an avid hiker, forever dragging her recalcitrant husband up over Amir’s Garden in Griffith Park, or Fryman Canyon. More than once she hiked to the top of Mt Whitney, and back—in a single day.

After retiring in 2020Clarisse rekindled her artistic side, and began studying ornithology so as to better render the variety of birds that would flock daily to her lovely garden—also designed by her.
