Percival Douglas Grenside Dobson (Doug) of Oakland CA, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2022 at his home.

Doug was born in Vancouver BC, Canada on May 19th, 1937 to Percival and Eleanor Dobson. Six weeks later he and his parents moved to Silver Peak,

NV for his father’s Mining Engineer career.

They moved to Fallon, NV in 1939 where Doug attended Fallon grade schools from 1942 to 1951. He attended High School at St. George’s in Vancouver, BC from 1951-1955. He played rugby and loved to show his crooked pinky received when he went to pick up the ball while someone else decided to kick the ball. Doug spent his summers working in mining camps and logging in forests. Doug returned to University of Nevada, Reno for his undergrad degree in Industrial Management/ Technology where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and worked as a cab driver. He loved to talk and tell jokes. He often said he would take part of his Friday earnings to the casino and play a hand. If he won, he would eat a steak dinner, if he lost, he would eat spaghetti.

After university Doug joined the US Navy and went to 18 months of Officer’s Candidate School in Newport, RI. As an officer in the US Military, he was required to relinquish his duel citizenshi­p to USA. Doug served on the Aircraft Carrier USS Hancock as the Engineerin­g Officer from 1961 to 1963. While in the Navy he was able to travel and see the world including Japan, Philippine­s, Bremerton WA, and Alameda, CA. He left active duty the same day President Kennedy was shot. He rose to the rank of Commander(O-5) and remained in the US Navy reserves until 1980.

While serving in the US Navy Reserves, he worked for IBM and Owens Illinois Glass in the Bay Area. He met his wife of 55 years, Linda May Taylor Dobson, an Oakland Native, at a cocktail party in Oakland, CA. They were married at the Alameda Naval Air Base on April 1st, 1967. Except for a 1-year work transfer to Toledo, OH from 1970 to 1971, Doug and Linda have called Oakland, CA home. Doug received his MS in Business from California State University, Hayward, CA. In 1990 he became the owner and operator of R&D Glass Products in Berkeley, CA, which is now run by his son Tom.

Doug was committed to his community and served in Piedmont/Montclair Rotary, Live Oak Lodge #61 Masons. He could often be seen volunteeri­ng with Boy Scouts, Montclair School, Labor Day Event at Paradise Park Masonic Club and St. Clements EYC. In lieu of Flowers, please make donations to Piedmont/Montclair Rotary, St. Clement’s Episcopal Church, Berkeley, or the charity of your choice.

Doug is survived by his wife (Linda), his 3 sons (Thomas, James, and Michael), his 3 daughter-inlaws (Sarah, Victoria, and Caitlin), and his 5 grandchild­ren (Gabriel, Malea, Margaret, Lucas, and Taylor)

Douglas’s memorial service will be 11AM Saturday, June 25th, 2022 at St. Clements Church, Berkeley, CA

Lolita Rossi passed away at home in Burlingame on June 3, 2022. Born February 1, 1942 in Bandon, Oregon, she was a long-time resident of Burlingame. Beloved wife of Emilio Rossi; cherished mother of Laura Scholes and Antonio Rossi; dear grandmothe­r of Ashley and Jeff Erwin, Robert Rossi, and Mia Rossi; loved sister of Stella Regalia and Rosalie and Jack Belcher; also survived by many other loved family members and friends, including Eric Scholes, Heather Rossi, Michael Perry, Diane Perry and Rex, Jeanette and Rob Thorson, Pietro and Barbara Rossi, David and Chasity Rossi, Peter and Shannon Rossi and Vinni and Antonio Rossi. Lolita was a long-time member of the Peninsula Social Club Women’s Group and was a generous member of the community. She adored animals and always gave back to help improve their lives. Her greatest accomplish­ment was the impact, influence and sincerity in her endearing, supportive, and affectiona­te mothering to her children, and being the most genuine, warm, and loving Nona to her grandchild­ren.

Friends may visit from 5 to 9 pm Thursday, June 16, 2022 (Rosary at 7 PM) at the CROSBY – N. GRAY & CO. Chapel, 2 Park Road, Burlingame. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Friday, June 17, 2022 at OUR LADY OF ANGELS CHURCH, 1721 Hillside Dr., Burlingame, with interment following at Italian Cemetery, Colma. A reception will follow at the Basque Cultural Center, So. San Francisco. For those who desire, memorials to www.hs-foundation.org/ donate are suggested.
