Mary Elena Milliken
Maryelena (Mary) Milliken, age 75, a longtime Pacifica resident died after a brief battle with cancer. The only child of Myra and Joseph Hernandez, her father precedes her in death. Her mother, at 98 years of age, lives independently in Tucson Arizona. Mary is survived by her husband David and two sons. Son Steven, daughter-in-law Kendra (Armstrong) and granddaughter Victoria Rose live in Tennessee. Son Scott lives in Truckee California.
While raising two sons and playing recreational womens soccer, Mary volunteered to coach youth soccer. Having no daughters of her own, she quickly became involved in the lives and activities of the girls she coached and mentored over 30 years.
Mary’s soccer journey included player, coach, referee, registrar and commissioner. Outside of family, one of Mary’s greatest callings and accomplishments was her involvement and guidance in soccer players and the life issues they faced. Her social skills, working well with others and resolving difficult issues amicably were her trademarks.
Mary has been a role model for all those that came into contact with her, both on and off the soccer field. Her character, moral compass, ethics, strengths, compassion and beliefs that she exhibited daily will help guide the girls of today into the powerful women of tomorrow. They along with Mary’s family and friends are her legacy she leaves behind. She is loved and will be missed.
