Bob passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 17, 2022, surrounded by family and friends. Bob was a pillar of the business and philanthro­py community in San Francisco for many years.

Bob had served as Pier 39’s President and CEO and retired in 2012. Prior to becoming President and CEO, Bob served as Pier 39’s Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Office and Chief Financial Officer. He began his associatio­n with Pier 39 in 1984 as Vice President of Finance. During his years with the company, Bob oversaw a number of critical financing projects and acquisitio­ns, and worked diligently on the revitaliza­tion of Pier 39, San Francisco’s most visited attraction. Bob also had extensive experience in the real estate management and retail industries before joining Pier 39. Bob previously worked for Price Waterhouse, Lucky Stores and the Pacific Corporatio­n. Bob served with honors in the Navy from 1954-1956. One of Bob’s favorite sayings was “Leadership isn’t just about what you accomplish, but how you accomplish it.”

With his expertise in his field, Bob was a board member of San Francisco’s Tourism Improvemen­t District, the Saint Francis Foundation, Historic Ships Memorial at Pacific Square and the Fisherman’s & Seamen’s Memorial Chapel. Bob was also a member of the San Francisco Planning + Urban Research Associatio­n (SPUR), the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce and the San Francisco Travel Associatio­n when he served on the board of directors for eight years. He was also a member of Financial Executives Internatio­nal, where he served as Chairman of the 1997 Annual Internatio­nal Conference.

Additional­ly, Bob was a 1961 (Accountanc­y) graduate from the College of Business at Sacramento State, and an active member of the Business College Advisory Council of California State University, Sacramento, which honored him as Business Alumni of the Year in 1997. He was also an active board member for the University Foundation. Bob establishe­d a named scholarshi­p to support Sacramento State accounting students in 1993, mentored and supported over 100 business students in his 30 years of dedicated service to Sacramento State.

In his spare time he enjoyed World War II history, politics and traveling with his adoring wife of 20 years, Elizabeth (Betsy) England. Bob also leaves behind his beloved sons John MacIntosh, (Sally) and David MacIntosh (Monica) and grandchild­ren Ryan, Kevin, Sarah and Jack. Charitable donations may be made in Bob’s honor to the Robert S. MacIntosh and Elizabeth A.
