Kudos to Kansas voters

The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade will leave this generation having to look behind our shoulders for every right past generations have fought so relentlessly for.

Gen Z will be the ones left to pick up the building blocks that the Supreme Court and elected officials have demolished. Young people have history to be able to look back upon and are handed a step-by-step guide on how to fight for what we believe in. We are going to do just that.

Most of this generation is not of the voting age, we are not career politicians, but we are the future. Elected officials are out of touch with the majority of Americans who support the right to choose to control one’s body.

Just because we are in California does not guarantee legal abortions forever. Republicans can pass an abortion ban if they get the majority of Congress in November. I urge everyone to vote like our rights depend on it — because they do.

Thank you, Kansas. I had tears in my eyes when I heard the election results voting down an amendment that would have outlawed abortions in the state. Kansans voted with their hearts and not with their political party. They supported a woman’s right to control her own body and make her own choices.

This is democracy at work — voting can make a difference. I now have hope that politicians and judges will not have control over these important and private decisions.
