Maria Kontonis

-

On August 5, 2022, beloved wife, mother, Thea, Godmother, and Yiayia, Maria Kontonis passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family and friends. She was a woman of great faith and always saw the good in others. Her love and concern for others was the first thing on her mind as she prayed for all, and made phone calls to check and support family and friends around the world.

Maria was born on the beautiful island of Zakinthos in Greece. Her dream was to make a better life for her family and immigrated to Montreal, Canada in 1968 with her husband and young son. The family eventually immigrated to California in 1974 to be closer to her two brothers and their families. She founded and ran Roma Pizza, in San Francisco, for over 30 years, serving the community with delicious food and warm hospitality.

Maria is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jimmy; son, Nick; daughter-in-law, Athena; and her grandsons; Dimitri and Bobby. She is also survived by her many nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.

A Trisagion will be held on Wednesday, August 17th at 7:00 PM at Duggan’s Serra

Mortuary, 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City.

The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 18th at 11:00 AM at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Cross, 900 Alameda de las Pulgas, Belmont.
