Stephen Thomas Sargent III (Steve), born to the late Diana Langlois and Steve Sargent II, passed away on July 25, 2022 at the age of 71. After recovering from a stroke and heart attack in 2021, Steve was diagnosed with a terminal lung disease in 2022.

Born on October 21, 1950 in Susanville CA, Steve grew up in the Marina neighborho­od of San Francisco and later moved to Daly City as a teen. Steve attended Sacred Heart Cathedral and graduated from El Camino High School where he was known as “Sarge”. Steve was a member of the Teamsters Union and worked for the S.F. Chronicle / Examiner for 40 years where he was a district manager for the Chronicle and shop steward for the union. Steve enjoyed mentoring his newspaper carriers and looking out for his fellow Teamsters.

Later, Steve returned to the Marina neighborho­od and subsequent­ly lived in Santa Rosa and Sonoma. Steve loved the companions­hip of his family, friends, and pets. Throughout his life, he enjoyed playing pool, pick-up basketball games at Moscone Park, racket-ball, and cribbage. His hobbies included working-out, swimming, biking, and he was a brown belt in Shotokan Karate. Steve, always warm hearted, was known to greet others with open arms, good humor and many smiles. He enjoyed a hot cup of coffee and striking up conversati­on with anyone. He thrived off of other people’s energy and was the life of the party!

Steve’s presence will be dearly missed. He is survived by his loving son Scott Sargent, daughter in law Rita, daughter Christina Sargent, son in law Todd Chumbley; grandchild­ren Sophia, Serena, Ronin Sargent, and Gunner Chumbley; sisters Lynda Ribaudo and Michelle Carlson; uncles Rene Martin, George and Spencer Sargent; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and loving sister, Margo.

Services will be held on Saturday August 20th at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave. in Daly City, CA at 12:30pm (greetings at 12 noon). Reception to follow.
