On August 10, 2022, William “Liam” O’Connor passed away unexpectedly of natural causes, leaving his many friends and family members heartbroken in his absence. One of those rare individuals who seemed to possess no shortcomings whatsoever, Liam was smart, hilarious, sweet, generous, hardworking-yet-fun-loving. In a time of crisis, he could always be counted on to help make things better, as well as lighten the mood with a witty remark, often delivered in a goofy voice. He was the person you’d most want to sit next to at a boring event, because you’d know you’d be entertained. And we would be remiss if we failed to mention he also had a great head of hair to boot!

Liam was born in Oakland, CA, six minutes after his twin brother, Tim. He attended Moreau High School in Hayward, then studied mathematics at UC Berkeley, which led him to his lifelong career as an actuary. At his first actuarial job, for the WCIRB of CA, Liam shared an elevator one day with a lovely coworker named Trish and was instantly smitten. That evening, they each told their respective roommates that they’d met the person they were going to marry. True kindred spirits, Liam and Trish enjoyed 25 years of marital bliss, their happiness made complete with the addition of their two children, Kieran and Claire, and adorable dog Charlie. A resident of San Ramon for 23 years who loved and served his community, he was a longstanding member of the local chapter of the Knights of Columbus. A family man through and through, he found joy and satisfaction in hosting holiday dinners, listening to Irish music, watching Jeopardy!, and cooking up clever concepts for his family’s annual Halloween card.

Professionally, Liam was a member of the Casualty Actuarial Society and proud of his designation. After seven years with WCIRB, Liam spent the following 21 years at AIG supporting in various actuarial roles. Many of his closest friendships were developed through work, and both he and Trish truly cherished these lasting connections.

Survivors include wife Trish, son Kieran and daughter Claire, all of San Ramon; mother Barbara O’Connor of San Leandro; brothers Michael O’Connor of Pleasanton and Tim (Diane) of Henderson, NV; sisters Julie Villeneuve (Roger) of Granite Bay, Mary O’Connor of San Leandro, and Pauline O’Connor (David Jargowsky) of Los Angeles; beloved son-in-law of Mike and Maureen Lennon of Burlingame; brothers-in-law Michael (Melissa), Matt and Dan Lennon; sisters-inlaw Theresa and Kathleen Lennon. Favorite uncle to Alicia, Sarah, Joseph, Carina, Eoin, Landon, Liam, Grace, Nicole, Ashlyn, Michael, Kate, Ana, and Pierce; treasured friend to Chris and Johanna Prevost; and many aunts, uncles and cousins in the US and Ireland.

Liam was predeceased by his father, Bill O’Connor

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, August 25th at 10AM at St. Raymond Church, 11555 Shannon Avenue, Dublin, CA 94568. In honor of Liam’s many years of service as a blood donor, donations are suggested to the American Red Cross.
