Michael Patrick Wildgans

-

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Patrick Wildgans at the age of 66 on August 15th 2022 .

Michael was born to Edward and Shirley Wildgans in San Francisco on July 20th, 1956. Mike attended St. Anne’s Catholic School and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1974. He grew up a true Sunset Kid, playing CYO sports and hanging out at JP Murphy playground in his free time. Mike met the love of his life, Bernie Buckley, in 1980 and they married in 1984. They left their hometown of San Francisco and settled down in the suburbs just south of The City where they built a fulfilling life together in South San Francisco. Mike’s home was always the party venue and full of friends and family, gathering to celebrate anything and everything. Mike and Bernie had two wonderful kids, and he quickly went from being the “fun uncle” coach, to the best dad coach, and dance dad there ever was. Mike created and fostered a wonderful neighborhood community, inviting everyone to hangout in his garage, play darts, and listen to soul music. Mike would even help organize the occasional neighborhood block party. On Friday nights neighbors and friends were welcomed to garage dance parties.

Mike retired in 2011 and started his new job as the most loving Grandpa and babysitter, hanging out with his “pally wally”, Charlotte, everyday. Together grandpa and granddaughter would watch Kelly & Ryan, eat lots of cookies, and open up the occasional book. When Charlotte started school Grandpa picked her up everyday, helped her with homework, and celebrated the end of every week with ice cream Friday. When his grandson Edward came along six years after his sister, Grandpa found the other half to his own jokester personality and had two pally wallys to enjoy.

Mike is survived by his wife, Bernadette Wildgans; son, Jack Wildgans; daughter, Pamela Nichols; son-inlaw, Christopher Nichols; grandchildren: Charlotte and Edward Nichols; brothers: Dan Wildgans and Tim Wildgans; and sister-in-law, Sono Takizawa.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents: Edward and Shirley Wildgans; and his brother, Edward F. Wildgans, Jr.

A memorial to celebrate Michael’s life will be held on Thursday, September 1st at 10am at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave, Daly City. All are welcome to come and celebrate Mike’s fun-loving and kind spirit. In lieu of flowers the family is kindly asking for donations to Kaiser Hospice Care San Francisco, who were absolute angels to Mike and his family in his final days.
