-

Randall Sprecher Murley was born in Blue River, Wisconsin on April 4, 1929. His mother and father were Florence Mildred Sprecher and Randall Murley. Randall died peacefully at home on August 24, 2022 with his cat, Toby by his side. Randall graduated from high school in Blue River in 1947 and from the University of Wisconsin in 1951. He served two years in the armed forces until 1953. After a brief period working with his father and brother George on the family farm, Randall moved to San Francisco and began working at Arden Farms as the “numbers man”. We all knew Randall to be a man familiar and comfortable with numbers. He loved to rescue cats: Happy, Sophie, Bandit and currently, Toby. He was a member of Changs International Folk Dancing and went dancing every Friday evening for 50 years. His brother George predeceased him. He leaves his only niece, Ann Horstmeyer (Bob) who lives in Wisconsin. He had many friends who received Christmas cards every year, and he sent hundreds of birthday cards over the years. He lived in the only house he ever bought since 1972 and was actively involved with his neighbors. People important to Randall are Ann and Bob Horstmeyer, Robert Haas of Pennsylvania, LaVon Goplin of Minnesota, Margo Hood, Alan and Maureen Schroder, Marcia Parrott, Will Wong Chan with his motorcycleriding dog Charlie, and Arles Tooker. Friends will remember him at a “Jack and Snack” memorial cocktail party on September 18 at his home. His cremains will join his family in Wisconsin.

He was stationed in Texas and Tennessee. After being honorably discharged from the Army he received his GED, attended CCSF for a few years, then transferred to UC Berkeley, majoring in Engineering. Ed was married to the love of his life, Lola for almost 57 years until her death in 2011. He was the owner of a meat market on Chestnut Street and worked there for 5 years before getting a job at Caltrans. Ed traveled the world before and especially during retirement. He also found his passion with golf. Ed was a positive person who had a positive attitude and outlook on life. This is what he tried to share with his children, grandchildren and close friends and relatives. He will be missed by all.
