Robert D Quinn

-

Robert (Bob) D. Quinn was born on July 24, 1925, to Julia and Laurance Quinn in Dunmanway County Cork, Ireland. Bob immigrated to America at the age of four. His three brothers: Denis, Daniel and Larry were all born in San Francisco and have gone on ahead to their eternal rest.

He is survived by Catherine, his wife of 71 years; three sons Hugh, Stephen, Lawrence; a daughter Mary; and three grandchildren: Thomas, Patrick and Grace; as well as many nieces and nephews. His son, Michael passed away in March of this year.

He served his country honorably in World War II and the Korean Conflict. Bob was a San Francisco Firefighter, serving 30 years with courage and distinction, and was a founding member of the SFFD Stress Unit, seeking to aid his coworkers. He retired in 1977 as a Battalion Chief.

He strongly believed in being of service to his fellow human beings and was loved and respected by many. He will be missed by friends and family alike. Bob will be remembered in a Funeral Mass on Friday, September 9, 2022, at 2 pm at St Anthony of Padua’s Catholic Church 1000 Cambridge Street, Novato. A reception will follow.

Peter Christopher Taylor was born in Portland, Oregon on August 22, 1944. Beloved uncle, beloved friend, he peacefully left this world the morning of August 1, 2022, at Saint Mary’s Medical Center surrounded by loved ones in the days preceding. He was kind and gentle and had a ready smile. Through his creative adventures and work as a scientist, Peter was a mentor and great friend to many. We miss him very much.

Peter chose to enlist for service in Vietnam where he capably ran a clearing station, despite the “small and primitive lab, where we only had WWI equipment” for testing sick soldiers for malaria.

Once home, Peter got a degree in microbiology, then worked as a civilian for the Department of Defense isolating monkey viruses in San Francisco. He remained in the Cow Hollow neighborhood for the rest of his life. He also worked at the Department of Agriculture in the Western Human Nutrition Research Center.

Peter is survived by ten nieces and nephews who will honor his legacy: Annemarie, Catherine, Philippa; Philip, Gwendolyn, Kareylyn, Jeffrey, Lisa; Amelia, Suzanne. Cousins, Cozette Medill Matthews, and others. And, by dear friends, Ken & Susan Brown. He was preceded in death by Albert Richards Taylor & Pauline Buckley, parents. By his four brothers, Buckley, Gordon, Sam, and Roger. Interment: National Cemetery, Dixon, CA, August 12, 2022. Many thanks to those whose camaraderie he enjoyed over the years, to mention a few: those with whom he shared a jewelry studio, and at Vesuvio, Christopher Elbow, Terzo, Rose’s Café, and West Coast Wine & Cheese.
