Giants part ways with reliever Leone

Dominic Leone, a genial mainstay of the San Francisco Giants bullpen in 2021, was placed on unconditional release waivers Saturday, a day after going on the injured list with an elbow impingement and inflammation.

The move will allow Leone a chance to find another club before the end of the season, and although he didn’t have good results this season, the right-hander had a 1.51 ERA last year, the best mark in baseball’s best bullpen.

Leone was inconsistent much of this year, but especially in recent weeks, allowing 14 runs over his past 21 innings.
