Ferocious Lotus back with fest of original one-acts
The variety of Asian American theater talent in the Bay Area gets rich representation in “Evolution,” a festival of new short plays honoring Ferocious Lotus Theatre Company’s 10th anniversary.
The playwrights in the festival were given the prompt of “evolution: past, present, future.” Geetha Reddy condenses “Mahabharata” into a very short play. Lisa Kang’s “Written in Water” is set amid Bay Area wildfire smoke, as one member of a couple takes another step along a gender transition and the other seeks wisdom from a Mongolian ancestor about whether to have a child.
“Evolution” marks Ferocious Lotus’ first in-person production since the pandemic hit. “It feels right to come back in this way,” co-leaders May Liang and Cindy Cesca Yoshiyama said in a joint statement.
