Close to danger

Northern California is one of the country’s biggest centers of human trafficking. A study released in July by a Sacramento nonprofit, Community Against Sexual Harm, said that 13,079 people were sexually trafficked in Sacramento County from 2015 to 2020.

In the U.S., 83% of victims in confirmed sex trafficking cases are American citizens, according to the Department of Justice.
