U.S. maintains lead in Presidents Cup

-

The International team battled to a draw Saturday morning in the Presidents Cup in Charlotte, N.C. The way this week has gone, it almost felt like a win.

The Korean duo of Tom Kim and K.H. Lee won two late holes and closed out Masters champion Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns on the 17th hole, ending the morning foursomes session at 2-2.

This U.S. team still had a 10-4 lead going into afternoon four-balls, needing only 51⁄2 points out of 16 remaining to win the cup.

Cal alum Max Homa continued a big week. After his late heroics the night before, he partnered with Tony Finau in a 4-and-3 victory over Si Woo Kim and Cameron Davis. Homa is now 3-0 in his debut playing in a cup. Denmark’s Rasmus Hojgaard held a one-shot lead over South Africa’s George Coetzee at the French Open near Paris after making a terrible start to his third round and ending with a 3-over 74.

Baseball: The New York Yankees’ Aaron Judge went homerless for the fourth straight game and remained one shy of Roger Maris’ American League record of 61 home runs after New York’s 7-5 win over the visiting Boston Red Sox.

Judge was 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and a walk. Since hitting No. 60 to spark a ninthinning comeback on Tuesday, he is 3-for-13 with two doubles, five walks and six strikeouts.

NFL: The agent for Buffalo Bills safety Micah Hyde announced that the team plans to place the starter on seasonending injured reserve because of a neck injury suffered in the second half of Buffalo’s 41-7 win over Tennessee on Monday night.

Basketball: A’ja Wilson scored 20 points to help the U.S. beat China 77-63 at the women’s World Cup in Sydney.

The U.S. has won 25 consecutive World Cup games since losing in the 2006 semifinals to Russia. The Americans advanced to the quarterfinals and are one away from matching their record 26-game run from 1998-2006.
