Jim passed away in Boise with his wife by his side. He was born in Oakland, CA the only child of Raymond and Thelma McLaughlin. The McLaughlin family made their home in Burlingame, CA. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, his children Michele (Rich), Kathi, Michael, stepsons David Ison (Wendee), Chris Ison and four step grandchild­ren.

After graduating Mills High School he joined the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Ticonderog­a and later as a reservist based at Moffett Field. He worked as a telephone installer for The Pacific Telephone Co. before graduating from San Francisco Law School. Jim became a prominent San Mateo Co. attorney for many years sharing a practice; Galine and McLaughlin. He loved practicing law and served as President of the Bar Associatio­n.

He had a passion for flying and acting as a flight engineer on the U.S. Navy’s P3 Orions traveling the world hunting for submarines. Jim was known for his great sense of humor honoring his Irish roots as quite the story teller. He held his family close to his heart and adored each of his children and grandchild­ren.

Always active, Jim ran cross country in High School, competed in drag racing, became proficient in Scuba diving, skied, flew solo and played golf. He delighted in mapping out road trips at home and abroad always including a sprinkling of golf courses where he could add a Logo ball to his enormous collection.

At home, in the evening, on his deck beside his creek, he enjoyed bird watching with Barbara.

All who loved and admired him wish him fair seas and following winds and a cold IPA at the 19th hole.
