Shirley Anne Herbert passed away in beautiful Sonoma County on the morning of September 20, 2022 at the age of 89. She is survived by her three sons: William, Timothy, and Gary Herbert, ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Shirley and her two sisters, Dorothy (Bogash) and Patricia (Buonsario), were born in Denver Colorado, to mother Charline Wolf and father Henry Violett. During WWII, Charline moved with her daughters to San Francisco to work in the shipyards. Shirley idolized her mother and was a devoted caretaker to her sister, Patricia, in her youth.

Shirley attended Mission High School on 18th street in San Francisco where she made lifelong friends. Not long after leaving high school, Shirley met William Raymond Herbert to whom she was married for 48 years, and who passed away in 2002.

Throughout her life she was a homemaker and business partner. She was an avid reader, a self-taught doctor, and a lover of animals, especially squirrels. She had a wonderful sense of humor and an eclectic style. She loved spending time in the redwoods in Cazadero where her husband had built a home. She was a devoted wife and mother renowned for her good cooking, creative birthday cakes, and her ability to identify the flavor of any See’s candy on sight. To those that knew and loved her, she was an unyielding force of a woman and pillar of strength for her family. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered as an indomitable person without equal.

She will be laid to rest with her mother at Cypress Lawn Cemetery in Colma, California. There will be a service to celebrate Shirley’s life at Chapel of the Highlands 194 Millwood Dr, Millbrae, CA 94030 on October 4, 2022 at 1:00 p.m.
