Deviant show perfectly suited for Halloween

- — Lily Janiak

In 2021, the team behind Tourettes Without Regrets moved the variety show from the murky grotto that is the Oakland Metro Operahouse to the open air. But the ever-changing lineup of circus, slam poetry, freestyle rap, storytelling and more has lost none of its underworld flair. Now called the Ruckus and Rumpus Revival, the show is still hosted by the fast-talking Jamie DeWolf, a ringleader of the grotesque and deviance, of excess on a shoestring.

The general vibe is a perfect fit for Halloween, and this month’s performance, subtitled “Monster’s Madhouse,” features Oakland burlesque performer and dancer Vaudie Va-Boom as Cousin Itt, pole artist Vix Nolan, and an act described only as “Hammer and Nails and Face” by a performer named Twitch.

The Ruckus and Rumpus Revival: Monster’s Madhouse:

7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6. $20. 487 10th St., Oakland. www.oakland
