Our dear mother Marilyn Jeanne (Nelson) Herrera, surrounded by her family, peacefully passed away on September 3, 2022 at the age of 87. Marilyn was born in San Francisco on July 15,1935 to Vera (Cresta) and Alfred Nelson. A native San Franciscan, Marilyn was raised in the Excelsior District. She attended Balboa High School, where she met her high school sweetheart Bob Herrera. They married in 1956, and shortly after they moved to Burlingame where they raised their four children. During their 66 years of marriage Marilyn and Bob traveled extensivel­y with their close friends and spent many summers in their favorite town of Twain Harte.

Preceded in death by her cherished husband Bob Herrera, beloved sons Leonard and Lawerence Herrera, mother and father Vera and Al Nelson and her sisters Joan Gaidzik and Susan Johnson. Marilyn a devoted mother leaves behind Victoria (Peter) Sodini and Robert (Carrie) Herrera. Adoring Oma to Julian (Kimberly) Sodini, Alexander (Gina) Sodini, Maximillia­n (Laurelle) Sodini, Luca Sodini, Alexa and Dominic Herrera. Most adored Great Oma to Vincenzo, Santino, Francesco, Adriana, Sienna and Penelope Sodini. A wonderful aunt to her many nieces and nephews.

A loving mother and homemaker, Marilyn was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends, especially over the holidays. Marilyn and Bob continued to carry on the Christmas Day “open house” tradition started by her parents. Marilyn was an avid knitter. She could be found creating baby blankets, slippers and afghans, many which are still providing warmth and memories today. When Marilyn was not cooking, knitting or reading she was “balancing the books” at her family’s business, Cresta Brothers Auto Parts.

Marilyn will be remembered for her warm and welcoming nature. Gatherings around her table and sharing her delicious dishes has created lasting memories for her family. Please join the family at a Memorial Service celebratin­g Marilyn on Thursday, October 13th at 1:00pm at Our Lady of Angels Church, 1721 Hillside Drive, Burlingame, Ca 94010.
