Dale Perkins

Dale Jesse Perkins was born on June 10, 1929 in Glenwood Minnesota, the son of Guy and Ruth Perkins. The Perkins Family moved to San Francisco when Dale was in High School. Dale graduated from Commerce High school where he was a member of the the City of San Francisco championsh­ip basketball team. Dale matriculat­ed to San Francisco State University received a Masters in Art. At State, Dale met met Evelyn Ramstad. They married in 1953.Dale served in the U.S. Army as an illustrato­r.

After the Army Dale became the art consultant for Burlingame School District in 1960. Dale and Evie moved to Burlingame with their two children Jeanne and Tarny. As Art Consultant, Dale wrote The San Mateo County Art Education Guideline books and taught art education to teachers from all around the bay area. Dale promoted the exhibition of children’s art throughout the community including the San Francisco Airport, the Burlingame Post Office and numerous other public facilities.

Dales original artwork blossomed when he retired from teaching. He created weekly political/editorial cartoons for 9 newspapers in the Bay Area. He created over 1000 editorial cartoons. He also continued his watercolor painting and created one of the largest collection­s of watercolor landscapes in San Francisco. Dale was featured in galleries in San Francisco, the

Bay Area and Assisi Italy. He received a Certificat­e for Decades of Art from Congresswo­man Jackie Sprier, a Certificat­e of Appreciati­on for Art in the Community from Burlingame Mayor Emily Beach and The Extraordin­ary Citizen Award from Burlingame Mayor Terry Nagel. Dale donated most his artwork to numerous organizati­ons in including The Burlingame Library Foundation and the Kidney Foundation. He was generous, enthusiast­ic, talented, charitable, hard working and was kind to every person he met . He had the warmest smile and warmest personalit­y.

Dale will be missed but his warm spirit, his art and the appreciati­on of art that he instilled in so many young minds will live on.

Dale is survived by his two children, Jeanne Carmack (husband Jim) and Tarny (wife Tess) Perkins, from his marriage to Evie. They had 7 grandchild­ren and 6 great grandchild­ren.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
