Kenneth (KC) Chew

Passed away in his home peacefully surrounded by his family. He was born and raised in San Francisco Chinatown. He met and married is late wife, Edna Wong in San Francisco. They were married for 39 years before her passing.

After graduating from high school, KC joined the Navy during WWII. After WWII, the Navy recalled him to serve during the Korean War. On July 4, 2021, he received a Congressio­nal medal of honor for his service in WWII. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he enrolled and graduated from the University of California Berkely with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. After graduating from college, he became an auditor for the California Public Utilities Commission. While employed at the PUC, he rose to the position of Principle Financial Examiner. In 1964, he passed the exam to become a Certified Public Accountant.

He retired in 1989. During his retirement he traveled with his wife and played golf with his childhood friends. He was active with Seniors in Retirement (SIRS) Branch 151. He volunteere­d for AARP, helping the elderly file their taxes.

KC is survived by his son Robert Chew, his daughter Carolyn Loew, sister Mavis Lum and his grandpets Dakota, Watson and Kat. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to Edna, he is predecease­d by siblings, Donald, May, Beatrice and Chester.

The family would especially like to thank Norma Haguisan and Anita Ford with Quality Nursing Services for the loving care they gave to their father for the past 6 years

Family and friends are invited to his funeral on Thursday, November 3 at noon at the Cypress Lawn Tiffany Chapel located at 1370 El Camino Real, Colma CA. Internment will immediatel­y follow at Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Hospice by the Bay, Self Help for the Elderly, On Lok or your favorite charity that supports the elderly.
