Carl Asaro

April 13, 1947 - October 5, 2022

-

Carl Asaro passed away peacefully at the age of 75 on Wednesday, October 5, 2022. Son of Joe and Caroline (now deceased) he is survived by his wife, Susan, son Peter (Megan, Ashley, Samuel), daughter Jaime (Craig, JD, Peyton), twin brother Joe (Maureen, Jennifer), and sister Rosemary (Steve, Benjamin, Shayna). Carl dealt with multiple health issues and defied the odds of every doctor and diagnosis that came his way. His strength was second-tonone and his will to live was unmatched.

Carl was born in San Francisco in 1947, just a few minutes after his brother Joe. He excelled in swimming throughout high school, earning All-City Honors, going undefeated for two straight seasons, and being crowned “Mr. Swimming”. He graduated Balboa High in 1965. He met his wife Sue while working at Macy’s Union Square and they married on April 20, 1968. They soon purchased a home in Daly City and started a family.

Carl discovered his love of cars as a young boy and learned how to repair and re-build engines from his father Joe. He purchased his first car at 15, and after repairing and upgrading it, he re-sold it and bought his next car. He would soon be racing his 1965 Mustang on the Great Highway and hanging out at Mel’s Diner with his friends.

In his late forties he started a non-profit organization, Car Crazy Promotions, and created an annual car show to raise money for children in need. His annual car show quickly grew to host over 350 cars and he raised nearly $1M over the course of 22 years.

Carl’s passion for cars was second only to his love for his grandchildren. His eyes lit up when he was with them. Carl was smart, kind, caring, generous, selfless, and devoted himself to helping others. In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that you donate to the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation at www.aarbf.org.

A memorial will take place at Duggan’s Mortuary, Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 6pm.
