M. Marie Ormston Larson of Stockton, California, formerly of Redwood City, California, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2022. Marie was a truly wonderful person, much loved by her family, many good friends, and former students.

A native of Waverly, Iowa, Marie was the fourth of seven children born to Lyle and Dorothy Ormston. She was the dear stepmother of Sandra Marine, Suzanne (Nate) Mihara, William “Rick” (Raenel) Larson, and Janice Larson; and is also survived by her sister Mary (Dave) Beidelman and brother Dick Ormston. She was a beloved Special Aunt to Kathy Boeckman and Kay Larson as well as the devoted aunt to four generations of nieces and nephews; eight stepgrandchildren, and eight step-great grandchildren.

Marie is preceded in death by her parents, four siblings, two nephews, and her beloved husband, Bill Larson, whom she referred to as the “love of her life.”

Marie was an outstanding elementary classroom teacher for 40+ years. Her love of education was first inspired by her kindergarten teacher, who saw in Marie the ability to become a very fine teacher. Marie never wavered from her teaching goal, and after graduating from Iowa State Teachers’ College, she began her career in classroom teaching in La Porte City, Iowa.

Even after she retired, she continued to focus on helping children understand the importance of a good education. In her later years, she reconnected with former students, some of whom she had taught as far back as 1959 and 1960.

She had a life-long love of music and was wellknown for her piano playing ability.

Marie was also a world traveler who visited and explored countries such as China, Morocco, Ireland, and Australia, just to name a few.

She will be remembered for her dedication to education, her generosity, intelligence, kindness, love of family and friends and her adventurous spirit.

Marie’s memory will be cherished by the many people who loved her and she will be greatly missed.

In accordance with Marie’s wishes, graveside services have already been held.
