Virginia Terese Simon entered into God’s Kingdom on Monday, Oct. 24, 2022 after a long battle with illness. Beloved wife of Robert for 47 years. Devoted mother of Michael, Donald, Gregory and the late Charles (Chuck), Daughtersi­n-law Angie, Cheryl and Cathy. Loving Grandmothe­r of Corey, Jason, Matthew, Alexander, Marie and Benjamin. Aunt to Stephen McGovern, Christine Smallcomb and Frances Hofer.

Born in San Francisco on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 1934 and raised in St. Mary’s Park, she attended St. John’s Grammar School, St. John’s Ursuline High School (Class of 1952) and Lone Mountain College. She had several lifelong friends from St. John’s that gathered regularly for lunches until the pandemic. She was preceded in death by Sister Marlene Judnich, Donna and Steve McGovern and Joseph and Debbie Simon.

Virginia devoted much of her life in the service of others. She was a CCD teacher at Holy Angels for over 50 years, Parks Supervisor for the Daly City Recreation Department, teacher at St. Veronica’s School for 19 years, and served in various additional capacities at Holy Angels, including Developmen­t Director and Athletic Director.

She developed a love of sports from her deceased parents Marie and Edward Judnich. She played basketball while at St. John’s and attended thousands of baseball, basketball and football games as a wife, mother, grandmothe­r, athletic director and fan. She and Robert attended hundreds of San Francisco

Giants games, and she attended games for over a dozen years on her own after the Giants moved to 24 Willie Mays Plaza. She was well-known in Section 138 of the left-field bleachers for knitting at most of these games and the countless other sporting events she attended.

There will be viewings for Virginia Simon at Duggan’s Mortuary on 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City, CA 94014 on Tuesday, Nov. 1 from 4-8 p.m. and on Wednesday, Nov. 2 from 4-8 p.m with a rosary on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be held at Holy Angels Church on 107 San Pedro Road, Colma, CA 94014 at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3 with procession afterwards to Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery on 1500 Mission Road, Colma, CA 94014. Lunch will follow the burial.
