Up-and-comers parade marches on in Oakland

- — Joshua Kosman

For at least this season, and probably longer, the Oakland Symphony is on a search for a music director to succeed Michael Morgan, who died last year. The current concert lineup finds the orchestra welcoming a diverse series of candidates to show what they can do.

The latest entrant in the sweepstakes is Holly Hyun Choe, a Korean American conductor resident in Zurich. She’ll lead the orchestra in Leonard Bernstein’s “Chichester Psalms,” along with the “Zodiac Suite” by jazz great Mary Lou Williams and Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s suite from “Much Ado About Nothing.”
