Therese Jackson (Terry) passed away after a fierce year-long battle with glioblastoma brain cancer. Daughter of George and Virginia Aherne (deceased) she was a proud fourth generation San Franciscan. She is survived by her husband David, daughter Kelly Wentzel, son-in-law Andrew Wentzel, sister DeDee Sammut (Joe), brother Paul Aherne (Rebecca), brother Greg Aherne (Ann Marie), and youngest brother George.

Terry was a terrific aunt to nephews Joey Sammut, Jamie Sammut, George Aherne, Mark Aherne, and Paul Michael Aherne.

Terry grew up in South San Francisco and then moved to San Francisco and attended St John’s Ursuline High School. She knew she wanted to go to Santa Clara University, her father’s alma mater, but he had told her that SCU did not admit girls. Terry said they would change their policy by the time she was ready to attend and she graduated from SCU in 1973. While at SCU, Terry met her husband Dave Jackson, and they were married in 1976 in a double wedding with her sister DeDee and Joe Sammut.

Terry went on to earn a Masters in Library Science at San Jose State; graduating in 1975. She loved to read. That love was the genesis of a 32 year career at the San Bruno Public Library starting in 1975. She would go on to become the Director of Library Services while also managing the Planning Department when the city consolidated its operations. After retiring from San Bruno, Terry became a consultant to the Peninsula Library System for the next 10 years.

Terry was the light in any room. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, friend, godmother, and aunt. She enjoyed being an advisor and was a coach to many people in the library system, business world, and local politics. She was a confidant to many who sought her sound advice. She was the first woman in the San Bruno Rotary Club and took pride in making that organization stronger.

Private services were held and the family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to your favorite charity or to The Friends of the San Bruno Library.
