Doug Fortune

July 17, 1941 - November 3, 2022

-

Doug grew up in Fresno in the late 1940’s and 50’s learning the true values that would form his exceptional character for the rest of his life.

In his later years, he battled Parkinson’s with his strength and dignity on full display. He leaves behind his wife, Ruth Ely Fortune, son Donald Douglas Fortune Jr. (Tomoko), daughter, Leigh Fortune Feusier (Mario) and six grandchildren.

Doug appreciated his family & friends who remembered him as a skier, raconteur, Renaissance man, car guy and gardener. Most of all, Doug was a courageous, strong, kind and humble person. The measure of a man is truly how he was remembered. Countless friends have commented: “His quiet presence was huge; his wit, intelligence, chivalry, concern for others.” “Something to say on ANY subject matter.” “I can see the newspaper spread out wherever he was sitting.” “Such a lovely man … with beautiful blue eyes and the most gentle nature.” “A fair and respected boss.” “I imagine his hands holding a rake, a book, ski poles or a golf club….a man of all interests.” “Resolute and loyal with integrity.” “Quick wit with a good story and a fun guy.”

Doug wanted you to love your families as he did his own, and rather than donate to his causes, he requested that you continue to support your own particular charities. Religious services will be for family members in Carmel-by-the-Sea. A celebration of his life will be held at the Orinda Country Club in January.
