Ono Bakehouse

Ono Bakehouse in Berkeley specializes in Hawaiian baked goods and snacks. One of the most nuanced offerings is the small but mighty sweet potato haupia pie ($10). It’s 4 inches of comfort, with a flaky crust, purplish sweet potato filling and cool coconut custard. Sweet, starchy and light, it goes great with a warm cup of coffee or tea. If you’re not a fan of the tubers, there’s also a rich chocolate haupia pie ($10), made with chocolate cream instead.
