Liesje Kell Martin
May 8, 1937 - October 9, 2022
Liesje Martin died in Jackson, CA, at the age of 85. The first child of Elizabeth Mink and Edwin Kell, she was a 5th generation Californian, with roots in the earliest period of California statehood. A 75 year resident of San Francisco, she was a graduate of Mission High School. After high school she married John Allen, with whom she had two daughters. Following his passing she later married Gerald Martin. Liesje was a sweet person who experienced some heartache along the way. Widowed twice, she worked to provide a home for her family. For years she was employed at the Planters Peanut factory on Bayshore. She was an active member of the Bakery and Confectioners Union. After the plant closed she earned a Home Healthcare Certificate. She was employed a number of years in this field until her retirement. She could be seen walking a two mile loop through her Portola
District neighborhood everyday. She loved following “The Days of Our Lives” soap opera. In 2013 she moved to Amador County to be near her family. She is survived by her daughters, Terry Hendricks and Rosemarie Allen; granddaughter Adele Johnson and husband Devon; great grandchildren Jordan and Alison; and brothers Bill and Rick Kell. Also many nieces and nephews. A private family memorial will be held in the near future. Remembrances can be made in Liesje Martins’s name to the Institute on Aging - San Francisco.
