September 5, 1925 - December 8, 2022

Katherine J. Baciocco aka “Kay” passed away at the age of 97 in Daly City, CA surrounded by her loved ones. Kay was born in Bayonne, NJ, on September 5, 1925, to Edward and Josephine Hartl who came to the US from Germany in 1911 on board the vessel George Washington and made Bound Brook, NJ, their home, eventually becoming naturalized citizens. Her father worked for the Central Railroad of NJ for 31 years as a foreman. Her mother was a homemaker and died when Kay was just 17 years old. Kay met her future husband, Dario (known as “Johnny” to Kay’s relatives), on a blind date during the war while he studied at Rutgers University for the US Army. They were married in 1946 and were married for 65 years before Dario passed away in 2012.

Kay and “Bach” were the original owners of their beloved home on Windsor Drive in Daly City since 1951. They were a founding family of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic church. They loved their community and believed strongly in the Catholic faith and giving back. Kay was a member of the Westlake Catholic Women’s club and participated in many activities such as the Parish Festival and was a regular “Hot Dog Lady” at OLM school.

Kay was the office manager for the family business, Parkside Appliance Service acquired in 1956, located in San Francisco. She kept the books on the old-style paper general ledgers until she was in her 80s. Additionally, Kay volunteered over 1,000 hours of her time to the gift shop at Seton Medical Center, then known as Mary’s Help Hospital.

A smart, intelligent, beautiful woman with a contagious laugh, Kay raised six children: Terry (Dennis Zouzounis), Linda, Karen, Dan (Diane), the late Tom (Lora), and Lauretta (Sam Anderson); and dearly loved her grandchildren: Chandra (Steve Bealey), Katrina (Sione Kofeloa), Kevin (Kristalin) Zouzounis, Nina Simi, Ryan Young, Rick (Helana) Baciocco, Danny (Anna) Baciocco, Anna (Dmitriy Tsoklan), Chris (Jefferson) Anderson and Sarah (Graham Tate). She enjoyed her 11 great grandchildren: Dario, Jordan, Sela, Norah, Klayton, Khloe, Kora, Josephine, James, Joseph, and Salem, and has 2 more due in June 2023.

Kay will be remembered most as a mom to all the kids that lived on Windsor Drive and as an avid fan of Dean Martin. She was also an excellent cook and incredibly lucky at the roulette tables and slot machines at Lake Tahoe. An original 49er season ticket holder from Kezar Stadium days and proud member of the “Faithful,” she rarely missed a game, win or lose, rain or shine, at Candlestick Park with her neighbor, Sarah Kelechava, and attended the 49er Super Bowl at Stanford

Stadium. In her eyes, Joe Montana was their greatest quarterback and nothing would be finer than if Joe had stayed a Niner!

A vigil will be held on Monday, December 19th at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary from 4:00-8:00 p.m. with the rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, December 20th at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy located at 1 Elmwood Drive in Daly City. Kay will be buried with Dario and Tom at the Italian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to Our Lady of Mercy at https://www. olmcath.org/
