George Samoulides

Born December 1, 1925. Passed away on December 19, 2022 at the age of 97.

He was the family patriarch, a native San Franciscan and an extraordin­ary man.

George was the son of immigrant parents, John and Fanny (Abage) from Asia Minor. He was married to his loving wife Artemis Angel (deceased) for over 70 years. Together they raised two sons Steven (Jeannette) and Greg (Veronica).

George was proud of his children, their families and their accomplish­ments. His grandson Brian (Charity) and great granddaugh­ter Avery always put a smile on his face.

He leaves a sister Ann Scourkes (Gus – deceased), sisters in-law Dorothea Christon (deceased) and Thalia Stavrinide­s, along with many nephews, nieces and cousins both here and in Greece and Uruguay.

As part of the Greatest Generation, George served his country during World War II in the Marine Corps with the First Marine Division, Seventh Marines on Okinawa and completed his service in China.

George retired from CalTrans as a Senior Transporta­tion Engineer and volunteere­d his time in helping others. He devoted his time to the YMCA Camp program at La Honda along with the father/son Indian Guide program. He was active for many years with the church OYAA program and the Greek Orthodox Lynx Fellowship Golf Club.

George was a Past President of the Holy Trinity

Greek Orthodox Church Parish Council and Chairman of the School Advisory Board. He was also Past President of the Yerba Buena Angling Club, Past Big SIR of the SIRS Branch #4, and Past President of the Resident Associatio­n at his assisted living facility.

George’s ever-present smile brought joy to many. He loved travelling the world with his wife. He was an avid gardener, pinochle player, golfer and philatelis­t.

The Samoulides genealogy was a long-time passion project that he continuous­ly worked on.

Funeral services will be held at the Greek Orthodox Memorial Park, Colma on Tuesday, December 27 at 12:00. Makaria (lunch) will follow at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 999 Brotherhoo­d Way, SF, 94132.

In remembranc­e of George’s life, the family asks that those wishing to do so offer a contributi­on in his name to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
