Virginia Helen Fendyan

January 13, 1925 - December 30, 2022

Virginia passed away peacefully on Friday; December 30th, 2022 surrounded by family. She was 97. Virginia was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Helen and Homer Roelle on Jan. 13, 1925. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband John Gabriel Fendyan and son John Gregory Fendyan. She was the eldest of six siblings; John, Robert, Richard, Janet, and Judy all of whom preceded her in death.

Virginia attended schools in Cleveland and Akron, Ohio. After she graduated from Buchtel High School, she worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company as a secretary for ten years. Virginia met her future husband John at Goodyear. They married in Akron, Ohio in 1954, and left shortly afterward for California; settling in San Francisco.

John and Virginia had six children; Van, Philip (Janet), James (Sandra), Johnny (d. 1992) Marie, and Thomas (Elizabeth). She is survived by six grandchildren: Martin, Nolan, and Tim Murphy; Madeleine, Gabrielle, and Caitlin Fendyan. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Once all the children were in school Virginia returned to work, spending 15 years at the accounting firm of Deloitte. Although she returned to work, she made time to volunteer at Holy Name and as a cub scout volunteer. She retired in 1990. Virginia spent time traveling post-retirement, visiting family in France, and exploring the history and heritage of Ireland. She enjoyed ornamental gardening and attending floral exhibitions. Virginia was an accomplished baker and her wonderful Christmas cookies will be missed.

Virginia’s visitation will be held at Duggan’s Funeral Service, 3434 17th Street, San Francisco, CA 94110 on January 12th between 2 to 5 pm.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Holy Name Parish, Holy Name of Jesus Church, 1555 39th Ave, San Francisco, CA 94122 on January 13th at 11am.

Immediately following the service, a reception will be held in the Father Flanagan Room at Holy Name. All are welcome.
