Sister Mary Kieran O’Connor, PBVM

Sister Mary Kieran O’Connor, PBVM (baptismal name Frances Bridget) entered eternal life on December 28, 2022 in San Francisco. A native of San Francisco, Sister Kieran was born on December 18, 1921, and was a Sister of the Presentation for 83 years, having entered in 1939. Sister Kieran leaves her loving sister, Sister M. Euphemia O’Connor, PBVM, as well as nieces, cousins, and her Presentation Sisters and Associates. Sister Kieran was the daughter of Ellen Mulvihill and Thomas O’Connor and was also predeceased by her brothers Leo, Thomas, John, and Gerald, and her sisters, Sister Carmelite O’Connor, DC; Sister Michaeline O’Connor, PBVM; Peggy O’Connor McGovern; and sister-in-law Marci O’Connor.
Sister Kieran earned a B.A. degree in Education from San Francisco College for Women and a Lifetime Teaching Credential. In 1941 she began her seventyseven years of Catholic education as a teacher in Presentation schools in San Francisco, Montebello, Oakland, San Jose, Menlo Park, and San Pedro. In 1963 Sister Kieran opened Saint Catherine School in Morgan Hill, serving as both teacher and principal there until 1970. From 1970 to 1984 she held those same roles at St. Patrick School, San Jose, and then completed her career with thirty-four years as vice principal at Saint Christopher School, San Jose, retiring in 2018.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at the Presentation Motherhouse, 2340 Turk Boulevard, San Francisco. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma. Funeral attendance requires full vaccination, negative Covid test within 24 hours, and K/N95 masking. The Mass will be livestreamed; link available at presentationsisterssf.org.
