Carol Palin Goodwin peacefully passed away on October 12th, 2022 at the age of 87.
She is survived by her sister Susanne Abplanalp of PA, her two children Russell A. Palin of Magalia, CA and Elizabeth Palin of San Mateo, CA. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Kenneth Brooks (Scott) of Concord, CA and Leah Ewbank (Daniel) of San Francisco, CA. Carol is blessed with two beautiful great grandchildren, Wesley and Camilla Ewbank.
Carol lived a very full and adventurous life. She was born in Middletown, NY to Benjamin and Mary Schantz. She and her sister were raised on the grounds of the Middletown State Hospital where her father was the director of psychiatry. She graduated from Bucknell University with a Bachelor of Science degree 1957.
Carol met Russell N. Palin in CT and they married that same year. They relocated to Arizona and then moved on to California. She began her career as a medical technologist before becoming a realtor for Coldwell Banker for many years. Carol and Russ also owned a beachfront property on Kauai, and she was the acting proper manager for multiple other owners. She was widowed in 1978.
Carol met her second husband, Larry Goodwin several years later. They shared a love for the ocean and were active members of the Coast Guard Auxillary. After Larry passed in 2007, Carol became involved in volunteer work, specifically the Homeless Cat Network. You could see her most days walking along the Bay Trail caring for the feral cat population. She had such an amazing ability for helping others and her love for family, friends, animals and nature were endless.
Carol will always be remembered for her kindness and generosity. She was loved and admired by so many people.
There will be a private family gathering to celebrate her life. Donations can be made to the Alzheimers Association or any animal rescue organization in her memory.
