Ann Pesce Schembari

August 23, 1949 - November 27, 2022

-

My lovely wife passed away on November 27,2022 at our home in South San Francisco. She was 73 years old. She is survived by myself, her sisters Joan and Marcia (Dave), her brother Mark (Geri), our daughter Lynn, granddaughter Ruby, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Ann Pesce Schembari was born into the OceanView neighborhood Pesce grocery/deli family. Ann was the first of four siblings and was born on August 23, 1949.

Attending St. Michaels Catholic school , before Immaculate Conception Academy where she caught the bug for teaching.

At City College of San Francisco, where we first met, she completed the prerequisites for her associate of arts degree before earning her Bachelor of arts as an English major, then earning a lifetime teaching credential.

I married the love of my life in July, 1972 moving to the outer Sunset District of San Francisco. Ann was hired as a third grade teacher at Mission Delores Elementary Catholic school teaching up to 40 third grade boys for several years. She had fond memories of her colleagues playing Pedro and blowing off steam on Friday afternoons at a Delores St. bar.

During a summer break from a subsequent teaching position at George Washington Elementary school we toured South America. When our son Brett arrived in 1977 Ann decided to become a substitute teacher. I will be forever grateful of the time and effort she made to make both Brett and Lynn’s childhood as joyful as it could be.

With the kids getting older Ann returned to full time teaching at Junipero Serra Elementary school in Daly City. Despite a forced medical retirement she remained in contact with her colleagues anticipating their many lunches, and Zoom meetings. She also enjoyed several trips to Europe and Asia.

The weekend before Ann passed she was able to spend a lovely Thanksgiving celebration with family. I’m forever grateful grateful for that day and the 51 plus years we had together.

A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Friday, January 20 at 11am at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave., Daly City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Nature Conservancy.
