Michael Angelo Duterte

Michael, known as Mike to his friends, passed away peacefully the night of January 15, 2023 at the age of 76, after a heroic 4 and a half-year battle with cancer. He is survived by daughters Micheline (Toby Ludwick) and Danielle; grandchild­ren Quincy and Zoe; siblings Rodolfo Jr., Marie Young, Brendan (Ruth), Patrick (Diane) and Lourdes (Kimball Livingston); 16 nieces and nephews; 15 grandniece­s and nephews; and innumerabl­e friends and loved ones. He was married to Teresa Dion Duterte, who passed away in 2009, after being lovingly cared for by Mike.

Born in Cebu, the Philippine­s, he immigrated to San Francisco in 1951 and lived in the Richmond District and the Sea Cliff with father Dr. Rodolfo Duterte, mother Martha O’Keefe Duterte and five siblings. He attended Star of the Sea School and graduated from St. Ignatius College Preparator­y in 1964, where he made lifelong friends. He studied graphic design at Long Beach State. Michael returned to San Francisco, working summers at CYO Camp Armstrong where he met his wife Terri. They married in 1973 and moved to Pacifica where they raised their daughters. Michael worked as a graphic and set designer for Bank of America and then had his own business, Michael Angelo Graphics, with clients across Silicon Valley. He also spent time volunteeri­ng at his church, St. Peter in

Pacifica.

Michael loved movies, music, nature and the magic of the holidays. His favorite places included Jedediah Smith State Park, Kauai, and Placervill­e where he recently renovated a home. He was an avid bike rider and passionate Niners, Warriors, and Giants fan. He was always a gentleman, with a great sense of humor, beloved by many. He will be dearly missed.

Friends are invited to visit Tuesday, January 31, 4-8pm with a vigil at 6pm at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave., Daly City. The funeral mass will be Wednesday, February 1, 10am at St. Peter Church, 700 Oddstad Blvd., Pacifica. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma. In lieu of flowers, consider donating to the Cholangioc­arcinoma Foundation or UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehens­ive Cancer Center in Mike’s memory.
